A summary of what I learned about the drivers for both versions of this card, after a client first obtained a used HP Pavilion 8650 C computer (with no recovery CDs or manuals then a replacement hard drive with an OEM Window 98 SE package— from two separate sources. Leaving me to discover the driver update provided by the HP Website is just that— a program that updates the already installed driver, which HP provides only on the product recovery CDs.     Thankfully, those original drivers were uploaded to Driver Guide.com. So below are the driver files and documents I located for Windows XP, 2000, SE and Me, then Linux— with brief note about the use or usefulness of each.   DISCLAIMER: I am not affiliated with the manufacture of these modem/audio cards, so the below information represents only my own understanding— which has not been verified with HP.       Modem Site.com: HP Riptide Information  [ New Window] Riptide HCF modem, then Chameleon/ Riptide Soft56 HSF Modem.   vee90.net: Conexant modem chipsets  [ New Window] ACF, HCF & HSF chipsets— including Rip Tide & Chameleon versions.   It appears that there are two versions of the HP Audio/ Modem card. I expect that the Pavilion models with the original— not Chameleon— audio/modem card are the ones listed in the HP Riptide Audio/ Modem Update document. ( Scroll down that page a bit.)   Microsoft Knowledge Base Article [ New Window] The Modem Does Not Work After Upgrade a Pavilion to Windows XP.   Apparently Windows XP already knows about this card. So that version of Windows will install appropriate drivers, without needing any additional driver files. However, when some systems are upgraded to XP, the modem portion of the card might not work correctly using the drivers.
This package contains Linux drivers for the Conexant ( Rockwell) Rip Tide Audio/ Communication Controller. These drivers are not fully tested and no longer being actively developed, because they are based on the OSS interface, which will soon be obsoleted in favor of ALSA. Linuxant is distributing them as open-source in the hope that they are useful to others, especially as a starting point for proper ALSA drivers. If you have a Rip Tide HCF modem (127 A:4321 or 127 A:4331 you need to install *both* the RIPTIDE and HCF drivers, otherwise the modem will *not* work. Rip Tide HSF modems (127 A:4311 or 14 F1:4311) require only the HSF driver, on top of which the RIPTIDE driver can be optionally installed to add audio, synth, midi, and gameport functionality. RIPTIDE driver Features:. OSS compatible. We are hoping that somebody with more time can turn this code into a modern ALSA driver someday. 2. Full duplex PCM playback and record. 3. Multiple playback channels dev/dsp). 4. Mixer support dev/mixer). 5. Supports direct access interface for games such as Quake2. 6. Supports OPL3 synthesis dev/sequencer) 7. Supports MPU401 external MIDI dev/midi) 8. Supports joystick at port 0x201 with system driver (joy-analog.o should be loaded) 9. Interoperates with HCF and HSF modem drivers. The latest version and related information are available from on the web. These drivers should work on most current Linux distributions, based on the 2.2.x or 2.4.x kernels. On some systems, it might be necessary to disable the Pn P OS BIOS option if it exists. See the INSTALL file for installation instructions. We would of course love to show how our optimizations benefit the entire range of Ge Force GTX GPUs, but sadly this is unfeasible given the number of benchmarks required. If you test the changes out at home on hardware not represented in this article please share your.
