I hope it won't be used by ome counterfeit Chinese to pirate phones or something and my number will be blacklisted Rooting (gaining Super User permissions to allow apps access to protected parts of the OS) and Unlocking (allowing the use of a network other than the one your phone is tied to, if you got it on contract) are two different things and are obtained in very different ways. Your IMEI could in theory be used to unblacklist a stolen phone, it's in effect a guaranteed working number. However the chances of this are slim, it's easier to just keep generating random codes if you know how the codes are formed and validated. you can even put them in HTC's own website to see if it's a valid number. I am of course not suggesting the OP is anything but legit - however I was just answering jelbo's question.
